Asylum

Wow, so I really dropped the ball on this whole blog thing. I must've been really busy reading. I have read a ton of books since I started this blog but I guess I should just pick up with the last book I read.

I read Asylum by Madeleine Roux. I was looking for something a bit spooky without it being horror since it's so close to Halloween and I am a scaredy cat. I would give this book 3 1/2 stars. I read it all the way through and I am also willing to read the sequel so it did keep my interest. It was a bit slow getting started and at times it was a bit confusing. Was it possession? Was it a ghost? I am still not 100% sure on that.

Since this isn't really a review I don't think it is necessary to retell the whole story but here is my brief overview in case you might be interested in checking it out. It is essentially about a 16 year old boy named Daniel Crawford who is attending a college prep program where he will go to the college for a few weeks in the summer and take courses. Of course, the dormitory where the students are supposed to stay is closed for renovations and a building purchased by the college, (you guessed it: a former mental institution for the criminally insane) is used in the interim. There are some strange and spooky things that happen and Daniel and his newly acquainted friends start investing the "off-limits" wing of the building. Anyway, that is really all I have to say about it for now. Has anyone else read this? Let me know what you thought.

Jessica is my Name; Reading is my Game!

I am so glad you are reading this. Welcome to my first ever blog! I read an insane number of books in very short periods of time because reading is "a-what I like". You know, instead of chantilly lace. Although I like chantilly lace too. And chantilly cream...but I digress. My husband suggested that I share my vast wealth of knowledge regarding fiction because it's not really fair to keep all of the awesome stuff to myself, right?

Here's how it's going to go down: I am going to read a book (on my tablet, that is) and then I am going to tell you all about it. I am not a critic or a reviewer, I am just going to tell you if I liked it or if I didn't and then I will tell you why.

I tell people the reason I love to read is to get a break from everyday mundane things. I don't read non-fiction because to me there is no escape in that. I love getting away from reality for just a little while everyday which I think is the reason I love fantasy and paranormal fiction so much. I mean, really, what is better than unicorns and vampires?

I really hope I inspire at least one other person to read during every spare moment they have because I think reading really opens up new worlds and invites creativity and playfulness into life when those things are hard to come by. I can't wait to get started on this new journey and I am excited that you have decided to join me.

To Reading...and Beyond!
